Digital Strips : Show 46 [10 MB] |
This week on Digital Strips we talk with Lem, creator and cartoonist behind Bunny. This web comic is a fascinating and deceptively understated comic that explores all sorts of topics including pop culture, existentialism and the absurdity of life through the eyes of a tiny pink bunny. There are some ninjas and pirates thrown in for good measure. This week we talk about :

Greystone Inn Victim of Hostile Takeover From Evil Inc.
There must be something in the water cooler over at Blank Label Comics. On the heels of the Melonpool re-tooling and Checkerboard Nightmare waking up we have Greystone Inn coming to an end. In it’s place Brad Guigar will be updating Evil Inc., which follows Lightning Lady, a recovering super-villainous, who takes a job at the company formed for super-villains by super-villains. Run by Evil Atom the corporation serves the many needs of supervillains in today’s marketplace — from Lair Construction to Henchman Outsourcing. The new site for Evil Inc. goes online Nov. 14 with many improvements. Continue reading

It’s Like A Nightmare, No More Checkerboard
It’s not a bad dream, Checkerboard Nightmare is calling it quits. Creator Kristofer Straub has decided to end his popular strip. Tomorrow will be the final strip and today is the five year anniversary of the series.
Straub stresses on the announcement on his site that this is not the end for Checkerboard Nightmare or its character but that he will be shelving for a while so that he can focus his work on Starslip Crisis, another strip that he?s been doing for the last six months.
Melonpool Reboot
With the launch of a new chapter entitled “Serenity Lost“, Steve Troop as rebooted his long running and popular webcomic Melonpool. When we discussed it on our show we noted that the story was extensively deep and complex. Self referential jokes abounded. None of that is necessarily a bad thing, but it sure was daunting for a first time reader to try and jump in.
The intimidating depth to his sci-fi/comedy epic was something Steve has been aware of for some time and his plans to make Melonpool Continue reading

People Are Looking At Us
When we first started Digital Strips we decided that we were going to hold off telling anyone about the site or our show for a while, until we had a few episodes under our belt. The plan was to get like a month’s worth of content online and then start trying to get the word out about what we were up too. That plan fell through within days of posting our first show when we started seeing traffic coming into our site. It’s weird how the internet works, if it’s out there someone, somewhere, somehow will find it. Amazing.
FAS-FAX Delivers Same Old News
Every year this report comes out and every year it says the same thing. The circulation of newspapers is declining and there appears to be no bottom in site. Of the top 20 papers 18 of them saw decline in circulation and it’s funny to hear the excuses:
Increased use of “do not call” lists … sparked a slowdown in subscription solicitations by phone. “That is a major tool” that [has been] taken away.
Gutterfly, Be Gutterfree
Gutterfly Comics is calling it quits as of November 26th leaving some 20 webcomics homeless. True to its name, Transplant Comics is asking for submissions from the soon to be disposessed.
Opportunities continue to abound. In honor of the PA CCG, I will play the polysyllabic card and say that, in fact, opportunities are abundant, ubiquitous, and prolific.
Boondocks Brings IT to Adult Swim
If you haven’t seen the first episode then go away before I fart in your general direction. I’ve been waiting for this show for months now. For those who don’t understand you have to live in Atlanta and see the 5 different billboards which are strategically placed along my 15 min drive back and forth to work. Adult Swim has triumphed before with Samurai Jack but I was not prepared for what a show would look like if a Comic writer was actually given full reigns.
