A Word… On T-Shirts

Posted By: -PookeyG- on June 30, 2006

High and low upon these Nets of Inter virtue have I scoured looking for things to buy with the money I don’t have, but sadly my list of items is limited to wearable wisecracks in the form of T-shirts. Now, let it be known I am no stranger to these items of cloth and color nor am I philistine enough to denounce their good qualities, but I am still left a bit miffed in their abundant presence.

They are the mass product of choice in online stores of every comic of every nature. They come in all sizes, styles, colors, and designs and their supply never does seem to run low (much unlike my patience).

I promised and I’m actually following through this time. After a week of back and forth I talked Platinum Studios’s Scott Rosenberg into coming onto the podcast to discuss their challenge. We go into many of the details that have been complained about and even explore his opinions on the world of web comics. In this episode we talk about:

  • Platinum Studios chairman Scott Rosenberg
  • Comic Book Challenge hosted by Platinum Studios
  • Will You Take the Challenge?

I got this press release from Platinum Studios in the inbox over a week ago but by now all you faith readers probably know just how slow I am getting the news out sometimes. I usually like to do some research so that I’m not just reposting the same thing you see everywhere else. Keeping that in mind I’ve been talking back and forth with Platinum Studios to figure out exactly what is going on and they even graced me with a full interview which I managed to completely screw up. Don’t worry though as I’m working on fixing that issue and you can expect an interview sometime tomorrow hopefully. Here’s the press release about the Comic Book Challenge:

  • A Word… On “Making Lightening”

Posted By: -PookeyG- on June 26, 2006

Posted recently on The Web Comic Examiner is a lengthy interview with comic creator, connoisseur, pioneer, and hippy-sherpa-figurehead Scott McCloud on his new book “Making Comics”. Everyone has their opinion on Scott McCloud and his ideas (I am no exception) and usually they are very polarized. Some people think the guy is a genius while others view him as a bit of a hack, but certainly everyone is united in owning a copy of his first book, “Understanding Comics” and loving it.

    A Word… On The Almighty 3/4

Posted By: -PookeyG- on June 24, 2006

I’ve been up and down this internet persuing and perusing comics of all natures, kinds, and designs and I have found a fundamental truth among all of them. The 3/4 view of any given character is the angle supreme.

Being a cartoonist myself, I can understand that. Not only is the 3/4 position fun as hell to draw, but in terms of staging, design, and expression it is the most universal.

    Going out of Order

Posted By: The Geek on June 23, 2006

Have you ever had somebody tell you they would do something, like give you a job, marry you or do decently in the World Cup, only to have them fall through? If you haven’t, let me fill you in, it sucks.

For the same reasons, although to a much lesser extent, it sucks when you favorite web comic doesn’t update when you’d like it to. I know a lot of you think I’m about to proceed to beat a dead horse but I think I may have something new this time.

And The Award Goes To… ~OR~ The Best Comic Strip EVER?

Posted By: midnightcartooner on June 23, 2006

Ah, another whirlwind week where I barely found the time to read all the webcomics I have on my Favorites list, let alone write ABOUT them. But you don’t want to hear about all that wedding planning and retail job crap, do you? I think not. So what has been on my plate as far as webcomics go, besides the creation of the next episode of The Amazing Superzeroes?

Why, the Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards, of course, which our venerable host and master, Daku, has already posted about. So why should I drop my two cents on this obviously dead horse? Because they’re my opinions and they are meant to fill this space, that’s why!

    Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards Return

Posted By: daku on June 21, 2006

It’s that time of year again where web cartoonists band together to pat each other on the back. The premier awards in the web comics arena has been gracing us every year since 2001 and came into it’s own 3 years ago with it’s 2003 ceremony. Since then the WCCA Committee has slowly put together the second best reward for doing a job well done, the respect of your peers.

Why have awards in the first place? Shouldn’t the art stand for itself? Of course it should, but then art for it’s on sake doesn’t do anything for the wallet or the ego. Read on…
