The Geek

Countless schoolyard beatings caused The Geek to draw back in fear from all contact with humans. In high school he found comfort in the glow of his computer screen and works of comic geniuses like Watterson, Adam and Amend. Now a (comparatively) well adjusted adult, The Geek combines the two with an unhealthy obsession with web comics. A writer at heart, story and characterization are what keep him truly hooked, however he’s never declined any kind of candy from a stranger, so he does appreciate “eye-candy strips.”You don’t want to meet him in a dark alley; he fights dirty.

Flavors of the Month

    Wapsi Square:
This strip is nothing new. Everyone has linked to it. Everyone but me has probably read it. It’s been on the top of my list of strips to read for a while now and I’ve finally gotten around to it. I’m really digging it. It’s got great writing, classy art and an ample supply of ample bosoms. What more would you want?
    Rice Boy
He’s simply drawn and simply written, but this little guy has chops. Rice Boy is a small little hero with an epic journey in front of him. It’s another take on the classic journey story that people have been telling since we were squatting in the dirt squinting at rocks, this time in web comic form. We’re just another medium people, another legitimate medium.

So what do I read everyday?

    Order of the Stick
One of my all time favorite strips, been following this one for over 300 strips. It’s a fun filled romp through the world of D&D with memorable characters, great gags and a swiping story line. I didn’t know a thing about Dungeons or Dragons when I started reading this, now I’m on my colleges Varsity team. Don’t let the stick figures deter you, you’ll get used to them and then learn to love them.
    Dinosaur Comics
A long time ago, Hooked on Phonics worked for me, and I learned how to read. It’s a good thing to because this comic requires a lot of it. I’ve always been greatly rewarded for my efforts though with plenty of belly laughs and quite a bit to think about to. If you can read, you should read Dinosaur Comics.
    XKCD
Ever since I found it, no strip has be printed out more, or been sent to more friends than XKCD. Granted I love math, computer science and stick figures so this is the ideal strip for me. Warning: This strip is much, much geekier than is probably healthy, but that’s why I dig it.
    Panda Xpress
Remember those Lisa Frank notebooks that girls used to have in gradeschool? Now imagine one of those that feature a panda and a rollar skating samurai. Throw in a whimsical story line, quick pacing and a whole lot of fun and you’ve got Panda Xpress. No crappy, tiny spicy chicken in sight.
    Extralife
This site has become more about the comunity than the comic for me, but still retains the comicy goodness. Simple gags, gamer humor and a very distinctive art style abounds here.
    8-Bit Theater
I have a dirty little secret. I used to really like sprite comics. There I said it, it’s out in the open. But then I found 8-Bit Theater and saw how good sprite comics could be. I haven’t read any others since.
Random Fact: I was once accused of being a drug runner for the Taliban
by the ever-friendly Kansas State Police.
